AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A jury has sentenced a former Austin software engineer to death for the slaying of an Austin police officer. A Travis County jury deliberated more than eight hours Friday before condemning Brandon Daniel in the 2012 death of Officer Jaime Padron. The jury had the option of sentencing Daniel to life imprisonment without parole.
GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) The Federal Aviation Administration says an American Airlines flight returned to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for an emergency landing Friday night after its crew reported the jet hit a bird on takeoff. The plane landed safely. The jet was flying to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A New York-based nonprofit says it's discovered new documents that undermine the credibility of a key witness at the trial of a North Texas man executed for the arson deaths of his three children. The Innocence Project says it has discovered a handwritten note that suggests a prosecutor may have given leniency to a jailhouse informant who said Cameron Todd Willingham confessed to killing the children in 1991.
