DALLAS (AP) Operators of the state's electric grid have urged conservation after freezing weather led to power outages and forced some North Texas schools to call off classes. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has asked consumers to limit power use this morning. Oncor (ON'-kor) reported about 7,600 homes and businesses without electricity.

CONROE, Texas (AP) A Southeast Texas man could be tried as an adult for a 1998 crime he's accused of committing as a 13-year-old. Don Willburn Collins faces a murder charge in Robert Middleton's 2011 death. Authorities say Collins poured gasoline on Middleton and set him on fire. Middleton died in 2011 from skin cancer authorities blame on the burns he suffered in 1998.

ATHENS, Texas (AP) State Fire Marshal Chris Connealy is continuing his 68-stop tour of areas with significant quantities of ammonium nitrate with a meeting in Athens today. Connealy and officials from other state agencies will meet with businessmen and officials in Henderson County. Ammonium nitrate was the chemical that detonated in West last April.

DENVER (AP) The widow of Colorado's slain prisons director could speak publicly for the first time about her husband's death today. The judge has allowed Tom Clements' widow, Lisa, and others to testify during a sentencing hearing for Stevie Vigil. Vigil pleaded guilty to buying a handgun used in the killing last year of Tom Clements.
