AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is fighting to keep his job after 11 years on the job. Dewhurst placed a distant second Tuesday in the primary for the GOP lieutenant governor's nomination. He faces firebrand conservative state Sen. Dan Patrick in a May runoff. An aggressive campaign challenged Dewhurst's conservative credentials and cast him as too moderate.

DALLAS (AP) A North Texas man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for running drugs as part of a methamphetamine ring. David Calandreli in November pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute methamphetamine. Calandreli is the 38th person to be sentenced after pleading guilty in the North Texas meth ring investigation.

DALLAS (AP) A Dallas-area teacher has been found slain in New Mexico where she was visiting a friend. Police have identified a person of interest in the killing of Emily Lambert. Authorities say Lambert was last seen Saturday night leaving a bar in Carlsbad. Her body was discovered yesterday along a highway about 8 miles southeast of Carlsbad.

UNCERTAIN, Texas (AP) Scientists and researchers are releasing up to 50 paddlefish into a Texas lake they once called home. Paddlefish disappeared from Caddo Lake after a dam was built in the 1950s. The dam changed how water flowed through the watershed. An agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers changes how water is released from the dam so it can more closely mimic nature.
