AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A medical examiner in Texas has released the identity of the second person who died when a car crashed through a street barricade during the South by Southwest Music Festival. Jamie Ranae West was riding on a moped early yesterday when the man fleeing police crashed into her. Her husband Evan West was among the 23 listed as injured and is still hospitalized.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) A former Texas Tech student has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after admitting to killing a next-door neighbor and setting fire to her apartment. Austin Hasten must serve 20 years of the term before becoming eligible for parole. Lubbock police say Hasten stabbed Michelle Terry to death in January 2013 and set fire to her apartment.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Drake has won top honors at MTV's annual South By Southwest-based awards show. Lil Wayne accepted the award for Drake last night in Austin. The 1975 took the breaking Woodie for best new artist. Chance the Rapper got best video Woodie for "Everybody's Something" and Ed Sheeran earned the performing Woodie.

BRYAN, Texas (AP) A Texas A&M research team has mapped the genome of the bobwhite quail as part of an effort to save the fast-disappearing popular game bird. The group spent two years to finish what they call a "first draft genome assembly" for the bird. A 2007 Audubon Society study says the bobwhite population has plummeted from 31 million to 5.5 million.
