AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A medical examiner in Texas has released the identities of the people who died when a car crashed through a street barricade during the South by Southwest Music Festival. Jamie Ranae West and Steven Craenmehr (KRAN-mare) were killed early yesterday morning. Austin police intend to charge Rashad Charjuan Owens with two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) A Lubbock man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing a next-door neighbor and setting fire to her apartment. Austin Hasten must serve 20 years of the term before becoming eligible for parole. Lubbock police say Hasten stabbed Michelle Terry to death in January 2013 and set fire to her apartment.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) Federal authorities say a Grapevine man has pleaded guilty to a commercial sex trafficking charge. Timothy Gravens is one of nine who were arrested last summer on charges of trying to pay for sex with underage girls after responding to online classified ads placed during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

BRYAN, Texas (AP) The genome of the bobwhite quail has been mapped as part of an effort to save the fast-disappearing bird. A Texas A&M research group spent two years to finish what they call a "first draft genome assembly" for the chubby, robin-sized quail with a distinctive striped black head. A 2007 Audubon Society study says the bobwhite population has plummeted from 31 million to 5.5 million.
