HOUSTON (AP) A false alarm caused an outlet mall in Harris county to be evacuated yesterday. A bomb scare forced the evacuation of the Houston Premium Outlets off U.S. 290. A bomb squad determined the bag contained nothing dangerous after about two hours. The scene was deemed safe and shoppers were allowed to return to their parked cars.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) Two men arrested for breaking into SeaWorld in San Antonio say they were part of a group that did so as part of a fraternity initiation. The two told police they were among seven who broke into the park as part of a fraternity initiation after being told to take pictures with the animals after dark. The two men were arrested and charged with criminal trespass and theft.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) An 18-year-old injured when a suspected drunken driver crashed into a crowd of people at South by Southwest in Austin got a private concert in her hospital room by one of her favorite bands. The band Jared & The Mill played for Mason Endres on Saturday afternoon. She was standing with her friends when police say the driver plowed into a crowd of people Thursday.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) A city-contracted developer is pursuing grants to fund a light rail that could connect Texas Tech University and downtown Lubbock. Marc McDougal is a former Lubbock mayor who is spearheading the effort through McDougal Companies. He says Dallas-Fort Worth-based Public Information Associates is putting together presentation material to try to win grant money.
