BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) Two brothers and their sister have been killed and a female friend of the siblings injured in a shooting over the weekend at a Beaumont home. Police say the shooting was the result of a family disturbance. Joe Hawkins was arrested on an aggravated assault warrant related to the injured friend. Police say additional charges are expected.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) A former San Antonio police officer has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to telling a person he would hold off filing drug charges in exchange for money. Curtis Lundy pleaded guilty in October 2013 to theft of honest services by wire fraud. He was also given two years of supervised release.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Tea party darling U.S. Senator Ted Cruz is logging some serious face-time in Iowa. Texas' freshman senator will be in Iowa today. It marks his fourth trip in eight months to the state that kicks off presidential voting. That's more Iowa trips than any other possible presidential contender except for fellow tea party-backed U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

WACO, Texas (AP) An effort is underway to name the Waco Veterans Affairs Medical Center for local World War II hero Doris Miller. Miller was a cook aboard the USS West Virginia when the ship was attacked at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. He initially helped carry wounded sailors and his captain to safety, then took command of a machine gun.
