GALVESTON, Texas (AP) Ferry service between Galveston and Port Bolivar (BAH'-lee-vur) has been suspended following an oil spill that closed the Houston Ship Channel. The Texas Department of Transportation says ferry service could be out for several days at the request of the Coast Guard. A barge carrying about 900,000 gallons of the heavy oil collided with a ship Saturday in Galveston Bay.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Gunfire outside a North Texas bar has left one man dead and three wounded as police investigate whether the shootings were linked to a dispute inside the club. The gunman fled after opening fire on a crowd in a parking lot. A medical examiner identified the man who died as Ketron Nathan. Investigators say three other men were injured.
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) Business owners, real estate agents and officials in Galveston worry that changes to the nation's flood insurance program could shutter businesses and stifle home sales. More than 61,000 flood insurance policies in Texas are expected to increase. The change was aimed at weaning hundreds of thousands of homeowners off subsidized rates.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) A man who led an Anti-Defamation League effort that led to a 1962 El Paso city ordinance ending racial segregation has died. Albert Schwartz died at his El Paso home Friday after a long illness. Schwartz was with the 104th Infantry Division when it entered Germany's Nordhausen concentration camp in 1945.
