DALLAS (AP) Dallas firefighters responding to a house fire too intense to initially make entry later discovered the body of a man inside. Dallas Fire-Rescue found the flames coming from the one-story residence yesterday were too intense to enter. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
PORT ARTHUR, Texas (AP) Port Arthur police say a carjacking suspect who grabbed an officer's gun was then fatally shot by another officer. Police arriving at a car accident yesterday afternoon learned that the vehicle had been carjacked. Officers then located another vehicle nearby carrying the 19-year-old suspect. Both officers involved are on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Houston-based barge operator that spilled nearly 170,000 gallons of tar-like oil into one of the nation's busiest seaports will be fined by Texas regulators. Kirby Inland Marine will be penalized because state law considers the company carrying the oil a responsible party. State records show that the company has been fined more than $51,000 for at least 77 spills since 2008.
WASHINGTON (AP) Governors Rick Perry, Nikki Haley and Bobby Jindal have written congressional leaders to rally against Internet gambling. Their letters are highlighted on the website for an advocacy group that GOP super donor Sheldon Adelson helped bankroll. All three governors are mentioned as possible candidates in the 2016 presidential election.
