FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) Investigators say the rampage that left three dead and 16 wounded last week at Fort Hood was related to the shooter's request for leave from the Army post. Army spokesman Chris Grey did not indicate Monday whether Spc. Ivan Lopez was granted the leave. Grey says the shooting spree Wednesday covered the equivalent of two city blocks as Lopez drove from one area to another on the Central Texas base randomly firing at soldiers.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A state district judge has thrown out a complaint filed against the Democratic group Battleground Texas that was based on a conservative filmmaker's video. Special prosecutor John Economidy says San Antonio Judge Raymond Angelini signed the order dismissing the case after he and another special prosecutor determined that no laws had been broken.
LUFKIN, Texas (AP) Police in East Texas have arrested a woman after she called them to complain about the quality of the marijuana she had purchased from a dealer. Police say an officer went to 37-year-old Evelyn Hamilton's home and she later pulled a small amount of marijuana from her bra when the officer asked if she still had it. She was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
CONROE, Texas (AP) Authorities north of Houston say a 34-year-old man has been shot and killed by deputy constables when they confronted him inside a Montgomery County home. The shooting happened in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday as the deputies tried to serve a felony warrant at the home near Conroe (KAHN'-roh). The shooting victim was identified as Wesley Maloy White.
