HOUSTON (AP) A malnourished 5-year-old Houston-area boy allegedly locked in a closet by his father and stepmother will stay with a great-aunt when he gets out of a hospital. Law officers answered a domestic disturbance call involving the boy's father and his 16-year-old stepson. The teen reported the younger boy forced to stay in a closet. Investigators say the rescued boy weighed just 29 pounds.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) A Mexican citizen convicted of killing a former Baylor University professor and attacking his wife near Kerrville is scheduled to be executed tonight. Ramiro Hernandez-Llanas would be the sixth Texas prisoner executed this year. His lethal injection would be the second in a week with a new supply of pentobarbital.
DALLAS (AP) Two more North Texas residents have been sentenced to federal prison in a bank loan fraud scam that started in 2007. Prosecutors in Dallas say Vathany Teng has been sentenced to 27 months in prison and must repay $4.2 million. Investigators say Lina Ma must serve 18 months behind bars and pay $2.1 million in restitution.
WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama is returning to Fort Hood to mourn with families of those killed there last week in a mass shooting. Obama was there less than five years ago for a similar situation. Mass shootings in Tucson, Aurora and Newtown have challenged the president to try to find ways to impart meaning to senseless death and look for policy solutions.
