SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) A burial service is being held in Puerto Rico for the Fort Hood gunman who recently killed three people and injured 16 others at a Texas military base before committing suicide. Relatives and friends of Army Specialist Ivan Lopez arrived yesterday at a funeral home in his hometown of Guayanilla. A family spokesman said Lopez will be buried later today.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) North Texas police have arrested a woman, her teenage daughter and the daughter's boyfriend, and two other men as suspects in a string of vehicle fires investigators blamed on arson. The 39-year-old woman, her 17-year-old daughter, the daughter's 19-year-old boyfriend and two other men, ages 18 and 19, on suspicion of arson.
McALLEN, Texas (AP) The former chief of staff to former Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino (treh-VEEN'-yoh) has pleaded guilty to a federal count of misprision of a felony for failing to report a crime. A statement from the U.S. Attorney's office in McAllen says Maria Patricia Medina entered her plea yesterday and could be sentenced to up to three years in federal prison July 3rd.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Travelers can now apply at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for clearance to keep their shoes, belts and light jackets on while passing through security screening. Transportation Security Administration chief John Pistole said yesterday that it was his agency's first airport office in Texas and the 14th nationally for people to apply for the "Pre-Check" program.
