DALLAS (AP) A North Texas jury will begin hearing evidence on what punishment a woman will receive for stabbing a man 130 times before castrating him at a Dallas hotel room. Cristal Paulette Richardson's was found guilty of murder in the April 2012 death of Cedric Lamont Owens. She faces up to life in prison.

The Houston debate pits San Antonio Mayor Julian (hool-YAHN') Castro against state Sen. Dan Patrick. Castro advocates granting legal residency to young people brought by their parents into the United States without papers.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) San Antonio animal welfare staff members say a 26-pound tomcat faces a long road to recovery after his rescue from a neglectful home. Dr. Marilyn Gotbeter, the agency's chief veterinarian, says Melvin and 20-pound Marvin "were cruelly confined, didn't have enough room to roam around and had no form of exercise or activity."
