DALLAS (AP) A sentencing hearing starts today for a woman convicted of stabbing a man 130 times before castrating him at a Dallas hotel room. Cristal Paulette Richardson had insisted that she was defending herself after being sexually assaulted when she killed Cedric Lamont Owens at a Dallas hotel. Jurors deliberated almost two hours before returning a guilty verdict.

TOWSON, Md. (AP) Police in Maryland say a Goucher College student from Austin has died after a hit-and-run crash over the weekend. Baltimore County police say Matthew Gabriel died Monday from his injuries a day after he was hit by a car. Police say Gabriel was not in a crosswalk when he was hit and the driver of the car did not remain at the scene of the crash.

ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) Police are investigating after a resource officer at a Round Rock high school used a stun gun on a student after being called to break up a fight. Police say the 16-year-old wasn't injured after being shocked at Stony Point High School. Authorities say the fight involved two students but that up to 10 students were around them when officers arrived.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) A judge has ordered an El Paso man to spend 18 months in a state jail facility for urinating on the Alamo. Daniel Athens had pleaded guilty to felony criminal mischief in February in exchange for a deal that capped his possible punishment at 18 months. The crime usually is punishable by up to two years of incarceration.
