HOUSTON (AP) A Houston-area teacher has been charged with doing a lap dance for a boy at school on his 15th birthday. A criminal complaint says 42-year-old Felicia A. Smith of Spring was charged Thursday with having an improper relationship with a student. Smith is free on $30,000 bond.

POINT, Texas (AP) A rookie East Texas sheriff's deputy has been fired after shooting a farm dog during a burglary call and the owner then euthanized his critically wounded pet. Rains County Sheriff David Traylor on Thursday fired Deputy Jerrod Dooley after the department received threats. Traylor says Dooley was fired for bad judgment.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor Leticia Van de Putte (PYOOT) has released three years of tax returns show that she and her husband earned a combined $143,000 to $184,000 a year between 2010 and 2012. The San Antonio Express-News reports federal returns also showed the San Antonio state senator and her husband, Pete Van de Putte, also lost $10,000 gambling in Las Vegas over two years, 2011 and 2012.

WASHINGTON (AP) The Palestinian Authority's latest push to establish a reconciliation government with the militant group Hamas is jeopardizing hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. foreign aid. The leaders of the House Appropriations subcommittee that oversees foreign aid Texas Republican Kay Granger and New York Democrat Nita Lowey said this week the agreement clearly threatens the money the Palestinian Authority has grown accustomed to receiving.
