OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The threat of severe weather across the middle section of the country was diminishing yesterday, but forecasters were warning about more threats on Sunday. Severe weather is possible across a large swath of the country today, with the highest potential for severe weather in Arkansas and portions of Oklahoma and Texas.

DALLAS (AP) The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says Russia certainly has the capability to invade eastern Ukraine, but he hasn't concluded yet that Russia's intent is to attack. In a Saturday interview with the Associated Press in Dallas, General Martin Dempsey spoke of his Thursday talk with his Russian counterpart, General Valery Gerasimov.

BANGOR, Maine (AP) Senator Rand Paul says the Republican Party must become a broader coalition to be victorious in national elections. The Kentucky Republican and 2016 presidential contender addressed the Maine Republican Party convention Saturday in Bangor. The Maine GOP has experienced infighting since libertarian activists loyal to Paul's father Ron captured the state party leadership in 2012.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Not even Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey can compete with Willie Nelson in Austin. The country music icon who already had a downtown Austin street and 8-foot local statue in his honor added a spot in the inaugural class of the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame last night. He was inducted by McConaughey, who recently picked up his first Academy Award for best actor.
