HOUSTON (AP) A much-anticipated debate tonight is pitting Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst against the fellow Republican now favored to unseat him, Dan Patrick. The pair will square off this evening in a one-hour televised, radio broadcast and online-streamed debate in Houston. The winner will face Democratic state Senator Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) State financial regulators have disciplined Republican Ken Paxton, who's running for Texas attorney general, for soliciting investment clients without registering as required by law. The Texas State Securities Board on Friday fined the state senator $1,000 and issued a formal reprimand. The board found that Paxton was paid for investment advising at times between 2004 and 2012 but did so without registering with the state.
BELIZE CITY (AP) The government of Belize continues to search for Texas man who went missing this week. Police on Belize's Ambergris Cay identified the missing man as 29-year-old Shane Leesman. They did not provide information on his hometown, but local media reported he was from Texas. He went kayaking on April 29th with another American, Bradley Evans Josker. Josker told police the craft capsized amid rough waves.
DETROIT (AP) The mediator hired by General Motors to settle claims from a deadly ignition switch problem has started talks about compensating victims' families. Kenneth Feinberg confirms in an interview with the Associated Press that he met today with Corpus Christi-based plaintiffs' lawyer Robert Hilliard.
