ROCKWALL, Texas (AP) A former North Texas law officer imprisoned for the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend and wounding of her male friend has been found dead in his state prison cell. Texas Department of Criminal Justice officials say former Hunt County constable Anthony Dewayne Lewis was found Wednesday at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont with an apparent self-inflicted laceration to the right side of his neck.

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) The U.S. Department of Energy says the shipment of certain kinds of nuclear waste from Los Alamos National Laboratory to a storage facility in west Texas has been halted. Investigators continue searching for the cause of a February 14th radiation leak at the federal government's underground repository in southeastern New Mexico.

HOUSTON (AP) "Who's telling the truth?" was the central issue in a much-anticipated debate between Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst and state Senator Dan Patrick, candidates in the May 27th runoff for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor. Dewhurst and Patrick both held their ground during the one-hour debate aired statewide Friday night from Houston.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) The board of regents for the Texas A&M University System has approved a $3.8 billion budget that guarantees fixed tuition and fees for students. The budget establishes the spending plan for 10 of the 11 universities in the system.
