HOUSTON (AP) Deputies are seeking clues to the identity of the person who opened fire at a suburban Houston "after-prom" party, wounding four teens. The shooting happened about 1:30 a.m. Saturday at a horse barn 14 miles northwest of downtown Houston. Sheriff's officials say all four teens are expected to recover.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) A San Antonio school district is deliberating how to respond if voters elect a school board candidate with a criminal history that would ban him from district property. The San Antonio Express-News reports Bob Coster, a candidate for the North East Independent School District school board, pleaded no contest more than a decade ago to a charge of indecent exposure. Coster called his arrest "shameful" and says he is willing, if elected May 10th, to work with the district on any measures to reassure the community.
TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) A man has been arrested after police accused him of stealing from a Southeast Texas park a statue of a young boy swinging a baseball bat. The Galveston County Daily News reports 41-year-old Adam Curry of Houston is in the Galveston County Jail with bond set at $80,000.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A sterling silver tea and coffee set that belonged to Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson drew a winning bid of $15,000 at auction in Austin. Spokeswoman Amy McMurrough says the bid came from an unidentified phone bidder during the auction Saturday by the Austin Auction Gallery.
