HOUSTON (AP) Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a Houston-area minister who was killed in his garage while preparing for a community yard sale. Magnus Scott Hjalmarson died from a gunshot wound to the head. Hjalmarson was known as "Minister Mike." He worked with a Christian organization known as Care and often coordinated community projects in the area.
CONROE, Texas (AP) Authorities in Southeast Texas say a man has died after he tried to jump off the top deck of a party boat. Ross Lehmberg was found dead just after midnight Saturday in Lake Conroe. Montgomery County constables say witnesses saw the man try to jump from the party boat, hit the bottom deck and fall into the water.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) The family of a man who drowned after escaping from a South Texas center for people with developmental disabilities says his death was preventable. Sean Yates had a history of escaping from the facility and thus had a staff member with him at all times. Officials reduced his supervision nine days before he escaped in January.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The case of a Texas woman is raising questions about whether parents convicted of kidnaping their own children in custody disputes should be automatically registered as sex offenders. Suzanne Kearns was convicted of aggravated kidnapping after taking her son to Mexico. Kearns was freed from prison in 2010 but must register as a sex offender until 2020.
