HEARNE, Texas (AP) Officials in a small Central Texas town have decided to fire a police officer who shot and killed an armed 93-year-old woman during a confrontation at her home. The city council unanimously voted yesterday to fire Officer Stephen Stem, who shot and killed Pearlie Golden on Tuesday, KBTX-TV reports. The vote took less than 30 minutes. Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
KILLEEN, Texas (AP) A Central Texas man has been charged with opening fire on several police officers trying to serve a warrant and leaving one critically hurt. Bell County jail records show 49-year-old Marvin Guy of Killeen was being held yesterday on three counts of attempted capital murder. Killeen police say four officers were shot early Friday at an apartment. Names of the wounded officers have not been released.
STEPHENVILLE, Texas (AP) A West Texas woman has been charged with aggravated kidnapping after a baby was abducted from outside a home in Stephenville but found hours later unharmed. Erath (EE'-rath) County jail records show 38-year-old Latonya McLain of Dublin was being held yesterday on $50,000 bond. Stephenville is about 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
MURPHY, Texas (AP) Two people have been found dead at a Dallas-area home in what police are calling suspicious circumstances. Police in Murphy on Saturday announced the deaths of a man and a woman at a single-family residence. Names of the pair have not been released. Murphy is about 15 miles northeast of Dallas.
