FRITCH, Texas (AP) Officials say residents in the Fritch area will be allowed back to their homes today after a Texas Panhandle wildfire. The fire was 85 percent contained late yesterday. Authorities have attributed the death of one person from an apparent heart attack related to the fire.
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) A former Houston police officer has been convicted in the 2012 slaying of a dentist as the two friends argued during a fishing weekend. Jurors on Monday convicted Dennis Roy Redding of manslaughter in the June 2012 shooting death of Dr. Mark Holcomb. Redding faces up to 20 years in prison.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) Investigators say an East Texas man has died after apparently being struck by lightning while outside his home. The Nacogdoches (na-kuh-DOH'-chihs) County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as Hank Wiederhold. Sheriff Jason Bridges says Widerhold's body was discovered last Friday in his backyard near a tree.
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) A man arrested while driving a stolen vehicle has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for later taking a taxi to a Houston-area dealer and swiping a $30,000 truck. Investigators say Fahd Saad Tanash was arrested in Hitchcock in a vehicle reported stolen in Houston. He was freed the next day and took a cab to a dealership in Texas City and pretended to be interested in buying a vehicle.
