WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) Critical drought conditions in one North Texas city have forced an entertainment park to truck in well water for its slides and river float attraction. Castaway Cove Waterpark has retained an outside hauling company to provide well water. Stage 5 drought catastrophic rules are in effect for the city of more than 100,000.
HOUSTON (AP) A prostitution crackdown in the Houston area has led to 18 arrests by officers also investigating possible human trafficking. The Harris County Sheriff's Office has filed more than 20 criminal charges in the sting involving a bar and a cantina. Members of a vice unit last Thursday arrested 15 women and three men on prostitution and other counts.
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) Prosecutors say a passenger in a vehicle hauling almost $1 million worth of methamphetamine to Houston has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison. Jurors in January convicted Jaime Homero Guerrero of conspiracy to possess and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Guerrero told authorities that he was heading from Matamoros to Houston for delivery of the vehicle.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) University of Texas System regents have scheduled a Tuesday vote on tuition rates for in-state students. The flagship Austin campus have asked for increases that would push the average semester cost over $5,000. Regents haven't raised tuition at UT Austin since 2011.
