AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Hurricane season doesn't start for another week-and-a-half. But the Texas Department of Public Safety is urging Texans to begin preparing now for the approach of a hurricane. DPS Director Steven McCraw suggests Texans assemble an emergency kit that includes essential documents, supplies and provisions.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) A West Texas jury has sentenced a man to death for a shooting death of a man during a robbery of an Italian restaurant. The Lubbock County jury sentenced Brian Suniga yesterday after deliberating for two hours. Jurors found Suniga guilty of capital murder Thursday in the 2011 killing of waiter David Rowser during a robbery of the One Guy From Italy restaurant in Lubbock.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Lawmakers could approve formal charges today that could lead to University of Texas System Regent Wallace Hall being forced from office. Hall has been accused of abusing the powers of his office and possibly breaking student privacy laws in his efforts to oust Austin campus President Bill Powers. Hall has refused calls for his resignation.

MISSION, Texas (AP) Agricultural leaders from eight states will join the Texas agriculture commissioner on a border security tour of the Rio Grande Valley. Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples says increased awareness could rally support elsewhere for border security and immigration reform. The agriculture leaders are scheduled for a tour of an international port-of-entry.
