WASHINGTON (AP) New data from the Census Bureau shows that three of the nation's five fastest-growing cities are located in Texas. San Marcos, Frisco and Cedar Park were numbers 1, 2 and 4 in percentage population growth between 2012 and 2013. This is the second year in a row that San Marcos has topped the list of fastest-growing cities with a population of more than 50,000.
DALLAS (AP) One person is reported dead in a shooting near a mall in south Dallas. Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person in an area hospital is believed to have been injured in the same incident. The shooting occurred near the Big T Plaza in Dallas' Oak Cliff neighborhood.
HOUSTON (AP) Houston-area authorities say a man expressed worries before his death about one of three people now charged with killing him. Jimmy Boyd's granddaughter, Cierra Jacobs, is charged with capital murder. Carino Ratcliff and Juan Lopez are also charged with capital murder. Deputies say in charging documents that the three admitted to killing Boyd.
UNDATED (AP) A 600-pound calf that lost its back hooves and part of its legs to frostbite in Virginia more than a year ago has been fitted in Houston with a new pair of prosthetic hind legs. The English Charolais (SHAR'-lay) calf known as Hero received the high-tech devices yesterday. The animal may be the only double-amputee calf in the U.S. with prosthetics.
