ALICE, Texas (AP) It'll be a day of damage assessment and cleanup in Alice after a savage thunderstorm has roared through. The storm hit Alice when the area was under a tornado warning. The storm toppled large trees and utility poles, shattered windows and windshields and left much of the town in the dark. There were no reports of injuries.

HOUSTON (AP) Dan Patrick won the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor last night. He says he'll campaign for votes in Democratic strongholds as he battles Democrat Leticia Van de Putte (PYOOT) in November's election. His comments came shortly after David Dewhurst called to concede the race last night and pledge his active support in the general election campaign.

ROCKWALL, Texas (AP) U.S. Representative Ralph Hall says he's not sad that he lost his last campaign for re-election to Congress. The 91-year-old Hall 's three decades in Congress will end this year after losing in the Republican primary runoff to John Ratcliffe. Hall plans to fly back to Washington this morning and return to work.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Woodville dentist Brian Babin has won the Republican nomination for the suburban Houston seat being vacated by U.S. Representative Steve Stockman. Babin easily beat Houston investment banker Ben Streusand during yesterday's runoff. Stockman is known for inflammatory gun-rights comments and calls to impeach President Barack Obama.
