FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A 17-year-old says she didn't want to participate in the stabbing death of a Fort Worth woman last year but was scared of the man accused in the crime. The teen reached an agreement with prosecutors in which she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of murder in the stabbing death of Adrian Thornton. A judge yesterday gave her the agreed-upon term of 30 years behind bars.
ALICE, Texas (AP) A National Weather Service team will determine whether a tornado hit the South Texas town of Alice yesterday. The storm toppled large trees and utility poles, shattered windows and windshields, and left much of the town in the dark. There were no reports of injuries. Jim Wells County officials say it's unclear if a tornado caused the damage.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Brian Babin has won the Republican nomination for the suburban Houston seat being vacated by U.S. Representative Steve Stockman. Stockman is a congressional renegade known for inflammatory gun-rights comments and calls to impeach President Barack Obama. Stockman unsuccessfully challenged powerful U.S. Senator John Cornyn in the Republican primary.
AMARILLO, Texas (AP) A Nebraska woman celebrated breaking a Texas steakhouse's speed record for eating a 4 -pound slab of beef by polishing off another one. The Big Texan Steak Ranch says competitive eater Molly Schuyler finished her first steak in 4 minutes and 58 seconds. The previous record was 8 minutes and 52 seconds. She ate her second 4 -pound steak in 9 minutes and 59 seconds.
