HUMBLE, Texas (AP) Residents of two subdivisions along a swollen suburban Houston river are ducking flooded roads left by heavy rains this week. The Northshore and Belleau Wood subdivisions north of Humble (UHM'-bl) sit along the shores of the flood-prone West Fork of the San Jacinto River. Floodwaters limit access to and from parts of those neighborhoods.
HOUSTON (AP) Houston leaders have approved an ordinance expanding anti-bias protections for gay and transgender residents. The Houston City Council voted in favor of the ordinance yesterday after listening to more than 200 people discuss the measure. Most spoke in favor of it during a public hearing that lasted more than seven hours.
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) The U.S. Coast Guard has scheduled hearings in Galveston next week on a collision between a tugboat and a freighter that spilled nearly 170,000 gallons of fuel oil into the Houston Ship Channel. The National Transportation Safety Board will participate. The oil spilled has coated some shores on the southern end of Galveston Bay.
HOUSTON (AP) More details may be revealed at a federal court hearing in Houston into the 2012 shooting death of an Iranian student and women's rights activist. Ali Irsan faces state murder charges for the death of Gelareh Bagherzadeh. She was gunned down near her parents' Houston home.
