DALLAS (AP) A Dallas mother has joined her boyfriend in facing charges after the death of her 14-month-old son who allegedly was punched in the stomach. Police also found Claudia Johnson's 2-year-old daughter injured. The girl underwent surgery. Police on Wednesday arrested Clezel Montague Mughni on a charge of injury to a child in the boy's death.
MIDLAND, Texas (AP) More than two dozen suspects have been nabbed in a crackdown on a West Texas-based methamphetamine ring linked to California and Nevada. Prosecutors in Midland say 29 people arrested yesterday or already in custody face federal or state charges. Authorities are seeking nine more suspects.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) A South Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for helping run a drug ring and concealing the proceeds through cattle and vehicle auctions. Ricardo Guerrero must also forfeit three properties and pay a $500,000 judgment. Jurors in March convicted Guerrero of conspiracy to commit drug trafficking, conspiracy to launder money and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
DALLAS (AP) Health officials say a Texas patient is the fourth person in the United States to die of a disorder believed to be caused by consumption of beef products contaminated with mad cow disease. The Centers for Disease Control says infection likely occurred outside the U.S. in the previous three cases. And the center says the Texas patient's history included extensive travel.
