PHOENIX (AP) Governor Jan Brewer's spokesman says federal officials have confirmed that undocumented migrants arrested in Texas will continue to be flown to Arizona. In addition, hundreds of unaccompanied minors a day are being sent to a detention center in southern Arizona. A Brewer spokesman says federal officials have asked the state to release warehoused medical supplies and ship them to Nogales, Arizona to deal with what he says is a humanitarian crisis.
DALLAS (AP) Dallas school officials say more than a dozen coaches and other district employees have been fired as a result of falsifying student residency documents in an effort to assemble stronger basketball teams. Superintendent Mike Miles announced the firings yesterday. The terminations include district Athletic Director Jeff Johnson and Madison High School coach Roderick Johnson, whose teams won state titles in 2013 and 2014.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Department of Transportation will host 25 public meetings to gather input on the state's long-term transportation needs. TxDOT on Friday announced plans for the public sessions about the Texas Transportation Plan through 2040. TxDOT says the public meetings begin Monday in Bryan. The last session will be held August 5th in Austin.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) Some graduate students at Texas A and M University in Corpus Christi will get high-flying mapping experience without ever leaving the ground. The school on Thursday announced Federal Aviation Administration approval to fly drones to map campus infrastructure.
