AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Justice Department says it has reached an agreement with Austin city officials to settle allegations that the Austin Fire department discriminated against minority applicants seeking firefighter jobs. The department says the agreement still needs court approval. Federal officials had argued that Austin used a written test that eliminated black and Hispanic entry-level firefighter applicants disproportionately.

DALLAS (AP) A former executive with a construction firm that specialized in recovery from natural disasters has been sentenced to four years in prison for defrauding investors. Brian Marshall pleaded guilty in November to one count of securities and commodities fraud. Prosecutors say he defrauded hundreds who invested in Home Solutions of America.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) American Airlines is asking the Fort Worth City Council to approve tax breaks if the airline builds an $88 million operations center on land near its headquarters. City documents show American wants a break on up to 85 percent of the first year's taxes on the property. The council could vote on the deal tonight.

DALLAS (AP) A former grizzly bear claw necklace and a Colt .45 six-shooter once owned by ex-scout and showman "Buffalo Bill" Cody will be auctioned this weekend in Dallas. Dallas-based Heritage Auctions will sell the two pieces during its "Legends of the West Signature Auction" on Saturday. Nearly 400 photographs, law badges and railroad memorabilia will also go under the auctioneer's hammer.
