SAN ANTONIO (AP) San Antonio police have fatally shot a man in a wheelchair who refused to drop his weapon after allegedly shooting another man during a fight. San Antonio police Chief William McManus says officers last night several times ordered the man to put down his revolver, but he refused. Two officers who felt threatened opened fire on the suspect.
DALLAS (AP) An HIV-positive Dallas man has been sentenced to 95 years in prison over the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl who also became infected. Matthew Reese pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child with a deadly weapon, aggravated sexual assault with serious bodily injury and sexual assault of a child. The now-17-year-old girl testified she didn't know Reese has the virus that causes AIDS.
WASHINGTON (AP) The Department of Homeland Security chief is planning to tour U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities in Texas and Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. Secretary Jeh Johnson will visit those sites today to "view the ongoing government-wide response to the influx of unaccompanied children across the Southwest border." Thousands of unaccompanied minors from Central America have entered the United States in recent months.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) A Central Texas toll road with an 85-mph speed limit has revenue of only 30 percent of original projections. Moody's Investor Service says that SH 130 Concession is negotiating refinancing with 10 banks that financed the original loan. An SH 130 spokeswoman says the company remains confident that prosperity is just around the corner.
