BELTON, Texas (AP) A man accused of shooting dead the only police officer in a small Central Texas town has been charged with capital murder in the killing. David Gene Risner was charged Friday in the fatal shooting of Lee Dixon, the police chief and only officer in Little River-Academy. He remains jailed without bond in the Bell County Jail in Belton.
MIAMI (AP) Republican Senator Ted Cruz says the Obama administration is to blame for the waves of unaccompanied migrant children crossing the border. The potential presidential candidate told reporters at a Republican fundraiser in South Florida yesterday that Obama's 2012 decision to defer the deportations of some undocumented young immigrants increases the incentive to cross the border illegally.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson led a federal team that toured U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities in South Texas and Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The Homeland Security Department said yesterday Johnson was joined by senior officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Coast Guard and the Defense, Justice and Health and Human Services departments.
