She says the state should boost funding for local officials who she says are being overwhelmed. Conservatives have been seeking a special session focusing on securing the border.
HOUSTON (AP) A bipartisan group of mayors from across the country have unanimously approved a resolution that calls on cities to use natural solutions to fight the effects of climate change. The measure passed easily at a mayors' meeting in Dallas even though Republicans and Democrats remain deeply divided over how to deal with climate change.
NAVASOTA, Texas (AP) At least one tank car has leaked a hazardous chemical after a train derailment near Navasota. Eight cars of the Union Pacific freight train derailed Monday morning but no one was hurt. The train started in Houston and was headed to Fort Worth.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Houston will be getting a fourth area code -- 346 -- starting next month. Officials project that the three existing area codes -- 713, 281 and 832 -- will run out of numbers by the end of September.
