TEMPLE, Texas (AP) A funeral is scheduled for tomorrow for the police chief and lone police officer in a small Central Texas town. Little River-Academy Police Chief Lee Dixon was shot dead in the line of duty. Dixon had been on the job for a month when he was shot and killed last week while answering a report of a man with a gun. David Gene Risner is charged with capital murder in the slaying.

HOUSTON (AP) The Houston area is about to get a fourth area code. The Public Utility Commission of Texas says 346 will be overlaid on three other area codes for Houston and its closest suburbs. The new area code will be available for telephone numbers assigned to new service starting next month.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Rocker Phil Collins is scheduled to visit the Alamo tomorrow to announce that he is donating his collection of Texas Revolution artifacts to the former mission and fort. The Texas General Land Office manages the downtown San Antonio shrine to Texas' independence. Collins is said to have the world's largest private collection of Texas Revolution artifacts.

HOUSTON (AP) Plans for a "bullet train" that planners say would carry passengers between Houston and Dallas in 90 minutes is expected to clear an early hurdle. Federal officials are scheduled to announce today if Texas and the private company behind the rail project can begin environmental reviews for the project. Proponents are expecting the go-ahead for beginning that review process.
