SINTON, Texas (AP) An evidence tampering charge has been filed against the wife of a man accused in a South Texas park attack that left a woman dead and her girlfriend hurt. David Strickland is charged with capital murder, aggravated assault with a weapon and aggravated sexual assault. Laura Strickland is charged with evidence tampering in the case involving two women who allegedly were sexually assaulted and shot.

DALLAS (AP) A Dallas man has pleaded guilty to the armed robbery of workers at two insurance companies. Prosecutors in Dallas say Michael Cleveland could get more than 70 years in federal prison for last September's holdups. Cleveland pleaded guilty to two counts of interference with commerce by robbery and two counts of possessing a firearm during a crime of violence.

HOUSTON (AP) The Public Utility Commission of Texas says a new area code will be overlaid on three other codes for Houston and its closest suburbs. Area code 346 will be available for telephone numbers assigned to new service starting next month. Area codes for existing telephone numbers will remain unchanged.

HOUSTON (AP) Plans for a so-called bullet train between Houston and Dallas are expected to clear an early hurdle. Texas Central Railway has given no cost estimates on the proposed 240-mile route. Backers say construction could begin as soon as 2016 and trains could start rolling by 2021.
