McALLEN, Texas (AP) The conversion of a 55,000-square foot warehouse in South Texas into a processing facility for unaccompanied children who have entered the country illegally is expected to be ready by mid-July. An email today from a Customs and Border Protection liaison to two Texas lawmakers confirmed the plans for the facility first reported earlier in the week.
KATY, Texas (AP) Authorities say a floor collapsed under a large crowd of people gathered in a suburban Houston home, sending three-dozen people to hospitals, mostly with minor injuries. A West I-10 Fire Department spokesman says the collapse occurred this afternoon as about 100 people were gathering for a religious event in a residential neighborhood in Katy, just west of Houston.
DALLAS (AP) One of four children hospitalized last week in North Texas after falling from atop a moving car has died of her injuries. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram 12-year-old Octavia Watkins died yesterday of blunt force trauma to the head.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) A man wanted for the 2006 murder of an El Paso woman in Chaparral has been captured in Mexico's Baja California. New Mexico Attorney General Gary King announced today that Eduardo Estrada Garcia recently was arrested after Mexican authorities received a tip. Estrada Garcia has long been a suspect in the 2006 murder of 31-year-old Emely Corina Howard-Ianni.
