Johnson says today's trip is focused on getting a firsthand view of the government-wide response to record numbers of child immigrants caught crossing the Mexican border alone.
FORT STOCKTON, Texas (AP) Attorneys for a West Texas woman convicted of fatally burning her uncle are taking their argument for her exoneration before a judge. Sonia Cacy has fought 20 years to clear her 1993 conviction in the death-by-fire of Bill Richardson in Fort Stockton. A state panel and several experts in fire science say the testimony used to convict Cacy was deeply flawed.
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) A Texas congressional committee is convening in North Texas to discuss the technology and cost of water desalination as the state grapples with persistent drought. The meeting comes as that city evaluates options to shore up its drinking water supplies. The Texas Water Development Board estimates the city's supplies are on a trajectory to run dry by 2016.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) It's the last call for the winning ticket from the January 1st Lotto Texas drawing for a grand prize worth $12 million. Today is the last day the ticket buyer can redeem the ticket sold at a South Shore Shell gas station on Farm Road 518 in League City. A ticket-holder forfeits any claim to a prize beyond 180 days after the drawing.
