DALLAS (AP) A Dallas-area teen charged in the death of another student after a fight allegedly over a video game has been indicted on a lesser manslaughter charge. Johnathan Turner originally was charged with murder in the March death of Troy Causey. The Dallas Independent School District last month fired 15 employees amid allegations of faked residency documents to field both top athletes.

HOUSTON (AP) One of the world's oldest medical tools is making a comeback in America. Police in Dallas and Houston are among many in big cities that carry tourniquets. The tourniquet stops bleeding by compressing limbs and squeezing blood vessels shut. Los Angeles, New York and others are in the process of adding tourniquets to their standard equipment.

DALLAS (AP) A downtown Dallas hotel built by hotelier Conrad Hilton is scheduled to get a makeover. The 14-story hotel opened in 1925 as the Hilton Hotel. Pickard Design Studio says it plans to restore some of the hotel's original features and ornamentation while providing the modern amenities expected by the guests of today.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Statewide rules to fight the spread of zebra mussels and other invasive species are now in effect. Zebra mussels were first confirmed in Texas in Lake Texoma in 2009. Authorities believe the infestations are accelerated by people who don't drain and clean their boats and trailers and move from waterway to waterway around the state.
