CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) A Coast Guard crew patrolling in the Gulf of Mexico has found an illegal net containing dozens of dead sharks. The Coast Guard says the mile-long gill net was found loaded with 65 dead sharks about 20 miles off South Padre Island. Gill nets are illegal throughout Texas.

PITTSBURGH (AP) A Denison resident who died in 2012 is among this year's Carnegie Hero Fund honorees. Officials say 22 heroes will be honored today in Pittsburgh. Kenneth Brandon Cowart died while trying to save two boys from drowning in Oklahoma. The accident happened in June 2012. Cowart was 38.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The LBJ Presidential Library is tweeting to mark the 50th anniversary of the signing of the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act. Experts and archivists at the Austin library will tweet photos, videos and links to period documents and telephone conversations. Many consider the Civil Rights Act the most significant law produced by the civil rights movement.

DENTON, Texas (AP) Wedding dresses from the 19th century to the present day are featured in a new exhibit in Texas. That includes a 1900s dress featuring a lace choker collar, a beaded flapper dress from the 1920s and a 1980s satin confection with an explosion of organdy ruffles. "American Brides: Inspiration and Ingenuity" runs through October at the Greater Denton Arts Council's Patterson-Appleton Center For The Visual Arts.
