CLEBURNE, Texas (AP) Johnson County authorities say the arrests of a woman and her daughter on theft charges should clear about a dozen theft cases in the county just south of Fort Worth. Deputies who arrested Cathy Silva at her home yesterday found several items that had been reported stolen. Iris Carroll was arrested later in Dallas on a warrant accusing her of stealing decorative crosses.
ANAHUAC, Texas (AP) Chambers County authorities say a plot of Southeast Texas land leased from the Army Corps of Engineers has been home to about 5,500 marijuana plants. Sheriff Brian Hawthorne got a call earlier this week from a rancher who reported suspicious activity on the wooded property he's leasing from the federal government. The estimated $2 million operation had been running for some time.

The actions by Galena Park Mayor Esmerelda Moya boot the police chief, city attorney and city administrator. Moya says her obligation is to the people who elected her.

The group Metroplex Atheists has given Rowlett city officials 10 business days to respond to a request that two of its members get on the list of people authorized to give invocations. The group's president says he'd rather see no invocation.
