AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The University of Texas System chancellor has told University of Texas at Austin President Bill Powers that he must either resign or be fired. A person with direct knowledge of the conversation between Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa and Powers confirmed the ultimatum to The Associated Press. The person says Cigarroa told Powers he must resign before the July 10th Board of Regents meeting.

HOUSTON (AP) A former member of the R&B group Hi-Five has been arrested in the stabbing death of his wife in Houston. Police say 40-year-old Russell Neal walked into a Harris County sheriff's office on Wednesday and told authorities his wife was dead at their home. Police say 24-year-old Catherine Martinez was stabbed multiple times.

HOUSTON (AP) Diana Poteat Stallings Hobby, the wife of former Lieutenant Governor William Hobby Jr., has died at the age of 83. Her husband says Stallings Hobby died yesterday morning due to complications from cancer. She served on the boards of many Houston cultural institutions and devoted time to the conservancy of the environment.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Two Fort Worth firefighters have been treated at a hospital after part of a ceiling and roof collapsed during a house fire. Fire Department spokesman Tim Hardeman says Jimmy Gray and Dallas Murr were able to free themselves from the debris of the collapse during yesterday's blaze. They were treated at an area hospital for possible head and neck injuries and were released a short time later.
