HOUSTON (AP) Authorities say four people have been shot at a Houston music festival. Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva says witnesses told police that a man opened fire early yesterday on a crowd of several thousand people inside an arena at the Houston Caribbean Festival. Silva says the shooting victims were taken to hospitals, and one man is in critical condition.
HOUSTON (AP) The Federal Aviation Administration says air traffic controllers at a Houston airport averted a potential midair collision. The incident happened Thursday night 10 miles northeast of Bush Intercontinental Airport when a Singapore Airlines 777 and Delta Airlines A320 came about a half-mile horizontally and about 200 feet vertically of each other. The FAA says an air traffic controller noticed the danger and gave the pilots instructions.
WACO, Texas (AP) Two Waco police officers rescued a 7-year-old boy after he slipped into the Brazos River during a Fourth of July event. Police Sergeant W. Patrick Swanton says the child was playing on the river walk Friday when he slipped and went under water. Swanton says Detective Dennis Taylor jumped into the water and pulled the child to the surface, and Detective Daniel Harper helped bring him to shore.
DALLAS (AP) Former "Scandal" actor Columbus Short has been arrested in Dallas for public intoxication. Dallas police say the 31-year-old Short was arrested yesterday morning at a popular restaurant. It's not the first time Short has had trouble with the law. In May, he pleaded not guilty to felony battery for a fight that seriously injured a man at a West Hollywood restaurant.
