LA JOYA, Texas (AP) The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified two people from the Rio Grande Valley as victims killed in a wreck as they were fleeing from authorities. Troopers say Osiel Figueroa was the driver and Pamela Mariscal the passenger in the weekend crash in Hidalgo County. Authorities say their car collided with another vehicle that was getting on U.S. Highway 83.
GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) A girl and her brother have drowned in a lake north of Austin. Williamson County authorities were called yesterday to Lake Georgetown where witnesses say the children had been playing in water 2 to 3 feet deep and about 15 feet off the shoreline when they went under. The two were taken by helicopter to a hospital but could not be revived.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Supporters of the Austin Zoo are pitching in with donations after burglars hit the park early on the Fourth of July and took an ATM, cash and equipment. Executive Director Patti Clark says she's mystified why someone would steal from a non-profit organization that takes care of animals. Clark says donations began almost immediately.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) A Russian engineer has been reported missing from a Liberian-flagged tanker in the Gulf of Mexico. The Coast Guard is searching for the man after the tanker called en route to Port Aransas. He was reported missing when the ship was about 20 miles offshore.
