EL PASO, Texas (AP) U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson is scheduled to visit an immigration detention center in New Mexico before he meets with officials in Texas. Johnson and Weslaco officials will discuss the humanitarian immigrant crisis caused by the surge in unaccompanied minors and family groups. Most of the immigrants are fleeing violence and poverty in Central America.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) An Arlington police officer has adopted a dog he rescued after it acted aggressively toward others. Sergeant Gary Carter and another officer determined that the dog was just thirsty, lost and afraid. They used a protein bar to lure the pooch into the patrol car for a lift to the dog pound. Carter has renamed the dog Chance.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Jurors in Jesse Ventura's defamation lawsuit have heard slain sniper Chris Kyle say in a recording that he didn't want his book overshadowed by a story about his alleged bar fight with the former Minnesota governor. Ventura says Kyle made up a story in his autobiography about punching Ventura outside a bar in 2006. Kyle was killed at a Texas gun range last year.

WACO, Texas (AP) The outfit worn by Lone Ranger actor Clayton Moore after retiring from television is going up for auction in Texas. The auction house says Moore made public appearances in character at events for years after retiring from television. His outfit included a powder-blue shirt and pants, red kerchief and Stetson hat.
