Most of the immigrants are fleeing violence and poverty in Central America.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Arlington police Sergeant Gary Carter has adopted the dog he chose not to shoot after it had been reported as acting aggressively toward passers-by. Carter was summoned to the scene of a dog chasing residents last month. Carter and another officer observed the dog's behavior and determined that it was just thirsty, lost and afraid.
WACO, Texas (AP) The outfit Lone Ranger actor Clayton Moore wore when he made appearances as the character after retiring from television is going up for auction in Texas. Moore played the masked lawman on the ABC television series "The Lone Ranger" from 1949 to 1957. The items spent more than a decade in the collection of a late Texas businessman whose family is offering the items.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Jurors in Jesse Ventura's defamation lawsuit have heard a slain military sniper say in a recording that he didn't want his book overshadowed by a story about his alleged bar fight with the former Minnesota governor. Chris Kyle was fatally shot last year at a Texas gun range. Ventura claims that Kyle made up a story in his best-selling autobiography about punching Ventura outside a California bar in 2006.
