HOUSTON (AP) The lone survivor of a Houston-area shooting that left six other members of her family dead is out of the hospital. Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital says 15-year-old Cassidy Stay was discharged yesterday "in good condition." Ronald Lee Haskell is accused of killing Stay's parents and her four siblings earlier this week.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Outgoing Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Barry Smitherman has asked Denton officials to not support a grassroots petition advocating a ban on hydraulic fracturing in the city. Smitherman wrote a letter to city officials this week, calling the petition "essentially a ban on drilling." Denton leaders temporarily halted fracking as they consider making their city the first in the state to permanently ban the practice.
CEDAR HILL, Texas (AP) Authorities have filed charges against a man accused of setting himself and a police officer on fire before running through a Dallas-area parking lot. Twenty-seven-year-old Terrance Dunn is charged with aggravated assault on a public servant. He underwent surgery following the incident Wednesday in Cedar Hill. Officials say Officer Ann McSwain also will require surgery for severe burns.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura has testified he doesn't remember any confrontation with the "American Sniper" author who claimed to have punched out Ventura. Ventura is suing the estate of Chris Kyle for defamation because he says the story is a lie. Ventura testified yesterday that he doesn't know if Kyle was even in the same bar the night of the supposed fight in 2006. Kyle was killed last year at a Texas gun range.
