SAN ANTONIO (AP) San Antonio police say a man has been arrested after a standoff that lasted several hours. Sergeant Javier Salazar says a SWAT team and negotiators came to the scene. The suspect exited eventually but didn't comply with commands. SWAT officers used a "less lethal weapon" to bring him into custody.
HOUSTON (AP) Authorities are investigating the death of a Houston man whose glider crashed in Southeast Texas. Police say Rokki Ford Roberts piloted the small aircraft that departed from the Greater Houston Soaring Association airport. They say a group of gliders were flying together when Roberts' went down in an open field yesterday afternoon.
DALLAS (AP) The Dallas chief of police wants to unite the area's four unions. Chief David Brown says it's distracting to have to coordinate with four groups. The chief's statement comes in response to a recent fight over the training academy. The Black Police Association told commanders they believed black recruits were failing out of the academy on some tests at a higher rate than whites.
FORTH WORTH, Texas (AP) A Fort Worth school district audit has deemed more than $2.7 million in computer equipment and technology as unnecessary or unused. The school district's chief technology director says he wants to stop paying the fees and hopes to recoup some of the money. He says the district's legal department will look into the purchases.
