GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) A Central Texas man convicted of sexually assaulting a child at an in-home day care center must serve 25 years in prison in a sentencing plea deal. Greg Kelley will serve two 25-year prison sentences concurrently with no chance for parole. Kelley accepted the plea deal during the penalty phase yesterday in Georgetown.
HOUSTON (AP) Four people have been hurt after an apparent lightning strike in Houston as they worked on the foundation of a house. The Houston Fire Department says yesterday's accident left one worker in critical and three in stable condition. Lightning also damaged a tree near where the victims had been working.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A Texas medical examiner says there's no sign of trauma or foul play on the eight decaying bodies discovered in a Fort Worth funeral home. The Tarrant County medical examiner says all but one of the bodies show advanced stages of decomposition. Fort Worth police say they are investigating the case on abuse-of-corpse charges.
GENEVA (AP) Texas blues icon Johnny Winter has died at 70. He rose to fame in the late 1960s and '70s with his energetic performances and recordings that included producing his childhood hero Muddy Waters. He had been on an extensive tour this year that brought him to Europe for his last performance Saturday in Wiesen, Austria.
