Hidalgo Co. Making Progress with Multi-Million Dollar Drainage Project
WESLACO – Hidalgo County leaders are making progress on a multi-million dollar drainage project.
The bond was approved by voters in November following a post-assessment of the June floods.
Some progress being made so far includes plans for a detention facility in a flood-prone area – one of about 40 different drainage improvement projects.
The county is about to close on the lot for this facility off of Mile 9 Road in Weslaco.
KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro spoke with David Fuentes, Hidalgo County Commissioner, Precinct 1, about the progress being made.
“What we really want to do is try to keep water out of people's homes, so a lot of these projects were designed to try to minimize that,” says Fuentes.
